The Christmas Killings: Thinking It Through

WASHINGTON POST: WHY ARE MURDERS NOW SO FREQUENT?

CNN: HOW TO START HELPING

USA TODAY: PRES. OBAMA TO SPEAK AT CONNECTICUT PRAYER VIGIL

It is beyond evil: This horrible, dark curse that has
now fallen upon our Country. What we have...eating away
at our collective consciousness...is something beyond
mere ashes to dust.

And no tinsel, no chorus of carols, no sweet greeting
cards or sincere sermons will stop it.

We can't continue doing what we've been doing and stop what is taking innocent lives. The evil has grown
 a life of its own.

I believe that it is time to recognize the bad for what it
really is: Among us.

I love life. I cherish Christmas. But now I recognize that
we, the sane in this American society...have lost
some of the faith that has bound us and our blessings,
together.

We can longer deny the fact that we, in 2012, in the
United States, are in very serious trouble.

Now we have a reason to wonder...when will it happen again
and will the carnage and the consequences be even worse
than anything that has happened, already?

We're living in a fragile peace: And it was once  protected
by laws, lawyers, cops, judges and juries.

Not anymore.

That major line has been crossed and oblitered.

And now we are enduring the cruel, cold, consequences
from criminals that no longer care.

Screams are their sacred songs and blood is their
new baptism.

And the hatred behind the criminal's actions is so strong and
so deep that they are no longer satisfied by their own
black fantasies.

They are so twisted that they now consider a mass
murder, followed by their own suicide, to be a noteworthy
accomplishment.

These may not be the words that you would like to hear
today. But they are important.

Because, we can't just blithely sit back and tell ourselves
that these murders are somehow foreign and isolated incidents. We
cannot count on "somebody" throwing out limits, like a
net, around these atrocities.

We can't continue to do what we have been doing and expect
no consequences. Nor can we stop these shootings from
happening, anymore.

I am wondering where we will find the power to override
what is so rapidly taking hold in our Country.

This evil is strong and our good must be of a greater
strength. We, the citizens of America, will now have to transform
ourselves from faithful to fighters.

Someone is going to strike, again. We all have
to prepare for that.

And, although we crave a connection of
Christmas joy...we remain "under the gun"
and in the sites of the next lunatic.

THIS LIMITED PERIOD OF QUIET
WILL NOT LOCK-OUT THE TRUTH.

God is one thing...going forward with God
is something else.

We now have to make a choice: Learn how to fight
the battle or just bury our dead, once again...
sometime in the near future.
