What Else Can We Do?

STORIES OF THE VICTIMS

NEW YORK TIMES: FBI CONSIDERING ATTACK TO BE POSSIBLE TERRORISM ACT

NEW YORK TIMES UPDATED COVERAGE

I woke up from a nap and there it was...playing out on the flatscreen...another shooting. The TV
showed images of people running, EMT's working frantically while a SWAT truck loaded with
sharpshooters...moved into place.

(*Note to Ed Snowden: Maybe you're better off where you are.)

"Is this what is going to become of the Christmas Season this year?" I asked myself.

We are barely into the month of December and now it looks as though 2015 will go out with a
bang...literally.

Yes, my dear readers, I can see it now:

"Today, folks...we're bringing to you the latest in 'Shooter Victim Sportswear.'

Now you can be sure that you'll look perfect when your brains are blown out on CNN. These
days, a spree shooter is liable to show up anywhere. And if that happens, you will be comforted
to know that you'll be dressed in 'Shooter Victim' style.

Why, when a news chopper zooms in close, even Wolf Blitzer will say, 'gruesome...but classy!'

And your tasteful outfit will take you from "The Situation Room" to news clips that will be
rebroadcast around the World!"

I am not making light of what is happening now. On the contrary, I am trying to wrap my head
around it. And here, in the United States...that's what many of us are struggling to do.

Whatever happened to twinkle lights and hot cocoa and carols and Frosty the Snowman?

Now, many of us are going to start searching Amazon.com for "The Citizen's Guide To
Surviving In The United States Shooting Gallery." A handheld police/fire/EMT scanner with
GPS, a solar charger and a push button connection to 911 will be the new stocking stuffer. And
a bullet-proof vest and helmet will move to the top of everyone's gift list.

Because what else can we do?

Somebody please...please...start singing "Silent Night."

While we are still able to listen...and believe that we just might have one this year.

Peace On Earth and Good Will To Us All.

Amen.

Oh, and one more thing. I have a message for all of the shooters:
